Life with a newborn baby is the beginning of a wonderful adventure – but, let’s face it, it can also be overwhelming, stressful, and messy. The newborn bubble wears off and you’re left with a tiny human reliant on you for everything, and your once beautiful home and perfectly styled life has been tipped upside down. A little tip from a Mum who’s been there before - it does get easier. But you know what really helps? Being organised.

We know organisation doesn’t come easy to everyone, that’s where we come in. Our job at The Nappy Society is to help make motherhood that little bit more stylish and a whole lot EASIER. Being organised helps with your daily sense of achievement but it also allows you to function your best for the whole family. Here are our top tips for staying organised with a newborn baby:

  • Get up and get dressed

When you feel overwhelmed, tired and sore, it’s easy to stay in bed or in your pyjamas all day. But feeling unproductive and lazy is only going to make you feel more out of control and overwhelmed. First things first, plan to make getting up and getting dressed the “norm” (even if you need to get up a little bit earlier to make it happen!) If you can add a shower to the morning, you’ll feel so much more on top of the day!

  • Invest in a decent Baby Bag or Baby Bag Insert (like ours!)

An organised baby bag with everything both you and your bub need for an outing helps take the stress out of leaving the house. Do yourself a favour - organise your bag and have it packed and ready to go the night before you use it! Our Baby Bag Inserts make packing a bag so much easier with compartments and pockets for everything you need and more. As well as being super handy and helpful for organisation, our Baby Bag Inserts are also super stylish – keep your designer tote and turn it into your BFF Baby Bag while maintaining your pre-motherhood style.

  • Storage bins/baskets are your new friends

Storage is the key to decluttering – if everything has a home, you’ll always have somewhere to tidy things away to. It can be helpful to create “stations” around your home for when baby arrives, and you need everything at your fingertips. Storage bins can make for the perfect space to include all your necessary items in one convenient little area or basket. For example, you might have a changing station in the living area, a postpartum station in your bathroom, a bottle station in the kitchen, etc.

You can purchase storage caddy’s, or you can make them yourself using stylish baskets from any of the big chain stores like IKEA or Kmart.

  • Create a capsule wardrobe

Creating a capsule wardrobe is the practice of editing your wardrobe down to your favourite and essential clothes (clothes that fit your lifestyle + body right now), remixing them regularly, shopping less often but with more intention.

Basically, you want to create a mini wardrobe of items that you LOVE but also work all together. By creating a smaller wardrobe, you help eliminate “decision fatigue” you are saving yourself time and stress while also avoiding unnecessary clutter! Now we aren’t saying you can’t shop or that you have to throw out half your wardrobe, but we are saying get rid of those clothes you’re never going to wear again (be honest) and when you do shop, do so smartly.

  • Prep and freeze meals

Meal prep. We know, this sounds overwhelming and it’s the probably the last thing you can be bothered doing but if you have stocked up on freezer meals, your life for those first few weeks after baby arrives will be SO much easier. These don’t have to be homemade (although they’re always yummier if they are!), meals can be store bought or from a delivery service. Before baby comes, start making double the quantity of your recipes and store what you don’t use in the freezer. This one is a real lifesaver.

  • Tidy up a little every night before you go to bed

We know how tired you are at the end of the night but tidying quickly before bed helps make mornings that little bit more bearable! Before you go to bed, throw toys back in their storage boxes or baskets, put the dishes in the dishwasher and do a general tidy up.

You’ll thank yourself in the morning!

We hope these tips help you create a more organised and stress-free space for when baby arrives! Let us know in the comments if you’ve tried them or if you’d add any to our list!
